Are Britons going green?

Article date : 14/10/2008

With living costs on the rise and the Consumer Prices Index reaching a 16-year-high last month, many Britons are choosing to save cash by going green.

A survey recently conducted by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society revealed that 69 per cent of respondents admitted they were now more likely to install some sort of energy-efficient feature into their home.

It was noted that many homeowners are now considering such money-saving measures as rising utilities bills continue to apply pressure on their household budgets.

In addition, many of the people polled said that if they were to build a property to their own requirements, 87 per cent claimed they would incorporate solar panels, a wind turbine or ground source heat pumps.

Meanwhile, 55 per cent of respondents claimed that they would consider building their own home.

Elsewhere, Kevin McCloud, the presenter of Channel 4's Grand Designs, has said that sustainable improvements are dependent upon to location of a property.

Britons who wish to take the first steps to going green, may consider installing heating controls on to central heating systems and asking a member of the Council of Registered Gas Installers to fit a condensing boiler.
