Introducing smarter eco-design on energy-related household products could see the economy saving £900 million, it has been claimed.
According to the Department for Energy, Food and Rural Affairs, a conference is set to take place this week to examine the positive effects that implementing energy standards and labelling high street products could have on the environment.
The European Union predicts that such standards could see the continent's energy use being reduced by ten per cent, while not complying with this costs £30 million each year.
New environment minister Dan Norris stated: "These standards can save our economy so much money and can save millions of tonnes of CO2 from going into the atmosphere."
Britons may wish to look out for energy saving stickers when they are shopping for a
new boiler.
The Energy Saving Trusts states that a
condensing boiler converts up to 90 per cent of its fuel into domestic heat, making it more energy efficient than older
gas boilers.
