A school in Burton is set to reduce its energy bills by thousands of pounds a year thanks to the installation of
condensing boilers on its site, it is reported.
According to the Burton Mail, Thomas Alleyne's High School, in Dove Bank, Uttoxeter, originally had its heating supplied by means of a hot air convector.
However, following funding from Staffordshire County Council's energy management department and recommendations made by the Carbon Trust, the site has had new
radiators and
condensing boilers installed.
Other environmentally-friendly improvements made to help increase energy efficiency and reduce bills include new double glazing, a cover for the swimming pool and monitoring and targeting software and the Carbon Trust has now made the school one of its case studies.
Ian Mirams, the school's site manager, noted: "The Carbon Trust looked at the school in general, gave us an overview of our energy use and highlighted specific places where it could be improved."
Meanwhile, in order to keep it warm over the winter, the Old Schoolroom in Haworth - where the Bronte sisters once taught lessons - is saving for a
new boiler, the Telegraph and Argus reported.
