Britons are increasingly likely to carry out home improvements in order to lead a greener lifestyle, rather than simply to improve the cosmetic appearance of their property, one sector commentator has suggested.
Michael Holmes, co-presenter of Channel Five's I Own Britain's Best Home, said that as people became concerned about the amount of heat they were wasting, insulation in particular was proving popular.
He added that the installation of air and ground source heat pumps was also something people were keen to do, in order to achieve lower energy bills, while also reducing their carbon emissions.
"There's definitely a move towards more ecology and not surprisingly, people are more concerned about running costs and the environment," Mr Holmes explained.
One investment Britons may wish to make is in a new
condensing boiler - which could help to lower gas bills.
However, fitting a
new boiler is not a job that DIY enthusiasts should attempt, but instead they should contact a Gas Safe registered
boiler engineer to carry out the work.
