While Britons who have opted to create their own grand design by building their dream home may be focussed on how the property looks cosmetically, how much it costs to run should be a priority during the planning process, one sector commentator has claimed.
Tim Pullen, an author and eco expert, said that once building work is complete and the householder has moved in, receipt of the first gas bill will reveal how much the property will cost to run and maintain.
With this in mind, self-builders may wish to ensure they have technology such as a
condensing boiler and
heating controls in place in order to make sure that gas bills are kept as low as is currently possible.
"If the house is going to last longer and cost less to run then you have added value to the house, so you have actually increased the value of the house just by building it sustainably," Mr Pullen stated.
Britons building their own home should ensure that they contact a Gas Safe registered
boiler engineer when it comes to fitting gas appliances.
