The amount of funding set to be made available under two government schemes to relieve fuel poverty and reduce the UK's carbon emissions will reach £3.5 billion by 2012, it is reported.
According to the Department of Energy and Climate Change, this will see energy providers investing more in the schemes CERT and CESP.
Furthermore, households will be given the opportunity to receive professional advice on where they can reduce the fuel consumption and become more energy efficient.
It is hoped this will reduce the energy bills of the Britons taking part by some £330 each year.
Commenting on the news, minister of state in the Department of Energy and Climate Change Joan Ruddock said: "Home energy efficiency has never been so important in achieving our long-term goals on climate change and to making a real difference to householders' energy bills."
Homeowners may find that they can reduce their annual energy bills by taking advice from the Energy Saving Trust.
The group states that a
condensing boiler used with the correct
heating controls could knock £275 off yearly fuel bills.
