A number of strategies need to be introduced if the UK is to meet is carbon emission reduction targets, including providing more
condensing boilers for homes, a new report has detailed.
The first annual report issued to parliament by the Committee on Climate Change has advised that 12 million energy efficient
condensing boilers should be made available to properties around the country.
The Energy Saving Trust claims that as well as being greener than older models of
gas boiler,
condensing boilers could also reduce annual energy bills by over £200.
In addition to the roll-out of
new boilers, the Committee on Climate Change has also recommended that more loft and cavity wall insulation and improvements in electrical appliance efficiency could see the green credentials of properties being improved by 35 per cent by 2020.
Commenting on the news, Joss Garman, climate campaigner for Greenpeace, said: "Unless ministers follow the advice of their own experts and ensure high emissions are ruled out - for example, from power stations - then it's clear that we won't make the cuts we need."
