Britons 'make do and mend'Written by Tony Harrison

There is a growing culture within the UK to 'make do and mend' rather than replacing items and the same theory could be followed when it comes to property.

Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, said that people are becoming increasingly keen on renovating their existing homes during the current economic climate, which could mean that now is a good time to invest in a new boiler.

"[Homeowners will] either move or improve and you don't need me to tell you that people are looking to improve in certain ways rather than move at the moment," he added.

Mr Orme's comments are supported by recent research from Nationwide which stated that green living is likely to play an increasingly important role in property in the future.

With this in mind, a condensing boiler may be a wise purchase, as the Energy Saving Trust claims it can lower carbon emissions and reduce energy bills by as much as £275.
