A
boiler engineer who had allowed part of his Council of Registered Gas Installers (Corgi) membership to run out has been accused of causing two deaths after fitting a
new boiler, it is reported.
Self-employed
boiler engineer Peter Tongue, of Llanspyddid, near Brecon, is accused of incorrectly installing a
central heating boiler at the home of 72-year-old Margaret Eileen Powell and Thomas Gwyn Morgan, 74, who later died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
He denies two charges of manslaughter and seven charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
And while he had been Corgi registered, his membership allowing him to work on ducted warm air systems had allegedly run out in 2003, which was three years before Mrs Powell and Mr Morgan had died.
Homeowners wishing to have a
new boiler fitted or to arrange a
boiler service should contact a Gas Safe registered
boiler engineer - after the group took over from Corgi in April of this year.
