Tenants 'wrongly issued boiler safety warning'
Article date : 19/07/2010

Tenants living in high rise blocks in Nottingham where the
central heating systems were refitted in November were surprised to later read that the housing association believed gas heating to be dangerous.
According to the Nottingham Post, the Willow View flats at The Woodlands, Radford, had new
gas boilers fitted late last year.
However, a newsletter issued by Nottingham City Homes said that its high rise blocks did not have gas appliances because of the risk involved.
One female resident questioned why the group would install new gas
central heating systems if they were dangerous.
However, a spokesman for the housing firm said that the article had not been worded correctly and that it was not true none of the flats had gas heating, noting that the group was in the process of replacing
boilers.
He added that the article was designed to warn residents against using gas canisters or power cookers.
"This lady is in no danger whatsoever as long as we are able to service her
boiler once a year and normal safety procedures are followed," the spokesperson added.
All homeowners are advised to have at least one
boiler service every year, carried out by a qualified member of the Gas Safe Register.
