Teens killed by suspected carbon monoxide poisoning
Article date : 04/08/2010

A group of teenagers who were celebrating the completion of their A-levels by staying at a luxury apartment in Londonderry may have suffered the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Two of the holidaying trio - Aaron Davidson and Neill McFerron, both 18 - were found dead at the flat in Castlerock, while the third is recovering at Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.
Health and Safety Executive inspectors are set to visit the apartment block to carry out a full investigation, but John McPoland from the Ambulance Service said: "All the signs and symptoms were that it was carbon monoxide poisoning," the BBC reports.
While it is still too soon to determine the source of the deadly gas, carbon monoxide can be leaked from faulty
gas boilers, portable heating devices and ovens.
For this reason, Britons are advised to have at least one
boiler service every year.
This should be carried out by a member of the Gas Safe Register who has all the relevant qualifications, while all other gas appliances should also be checked.
