Scottish government introduces boiler scrappage scheme
Article date : 04/02/2010

Scotland is taking steps to modernise the
central heating systems of its households by launching a similar
boiler scrappage scheme to that already in force in England, it has been reported.
Unveiling the 2010 Budget, finance secretary John Swinney announced the launch of a £2 million
boiler scrappage scheme, which will see Scots with older
boilers able to take advantage of a £400 discount on an upgrade.
This is in addition to money set to be put towards improving property insulation, along with the construction of more affordable housing.
Scottish ministers may have been inspired to launch the scheme following the success of the English
boiler scrappage programme.
Indeed, the Energy Saving Trust recently announced it had seen high demand for the discount vouchers among English households.
Under the programme, homeowners or rental tenants can apply to the trust for a voucher worth £400 off the cost of a new
condensing boiler if they currently rely on a G-rated
boiler to power their
central heating systems.
