New boiler 'could help slash bills'
Article date : 11/03/2010

Consumers keen to make their
central heating systems more energy efficient in time for next winter following the high bills they may have received recently have been advised to invest in a
new boiler.
Rachel Robson, in an article for Love Money, explains that this is just one of the steps that could see Britons successfully slashing their energy bills.
She claims people with a
gas boiler aged between ten and 15 years old will find it is worthwhile thinking about investing in an upgrade as the appliance is likely to only have a G-rating, making it the least energy efficient.
A G-rated
boiler can be identified by its age, if it has a permanent pilot light or if it is made up of a single combustion chamber.
People currently relying on such an appliance to power their
central heating systems are advised by Ms Robson to apply to the Energy Saving Trust to take part in its ongoing
boiler scrappage scheme.
This could see them receiving £400 off the cost of a
new boiler.
"However, even if you don't qualify for this, in the long run, investing in a
new boiler is still likely to save you money," she adds.
Britons may wish to take this advice in time for next winter, after uSwitch.com revealed 5.5 million UK households are currently in debt to their energy supplier.
