Is your boiler G-rated?

Is your boiler G-rated?In order to qualify for the government's new boiler scrappage scheme, properties need to have a G-rated boiler, but some consumers may be unsure what this is.

Speaking to the Move Channel, npower hometeam member Joe Jose notes many G-rated boilers will have a permanent pilot light.

Furthermore, the appliance is likely to be over 15 years old if it is a gas boiler, or 25 years old if it is oil-fired.

To be eligible for the discount, Britons need to ensure their current boiler is in full working order and is the main power source for their central heating systems, hot water supply or both, he adds.

Consumers can apply to the Energy Saving Trust to take part in the scrappage scheme, which provides £400 off the cost of upgrading to a condensing boiler.

The Guardian recently reported there has been an "enthusiastic" response to the programme, with thousands of people already applying to see if they qualify.
