'Enthusiastic response' for boiler scrappage
Article date : 01/02/2010

Just weeks after it was officially launched, thousands of Britons have applied to see if they qualify for the
new boiler scrappage scheme, it is noted.
Indeed, the Guardian reports the government programme - which works in a similar way to the car scrappage scheme - has seen an "enthusiastic response" from consumers.
So great has the demand been that the Energy Saving Trust - which hands out the discount vouchers - is still sorting through applicants as new ones come in, the newspaper continues.
As a result, the trust has now doubled the number of employees working in its call centre.
The Guardian reported last week: "By the beginning of this week it had received 160,000 calls and around 36,000 people had applied for one of the 125,000 available vouchers."
Under the
new boiler scrappage scheme, people living in properties which use a G-rated
gas boiler to power their
central heating systems can apply for a voucher worth £400 towards the cost of a new
condensing boiler, biomass
boiler or ground source heat pump.
