Could retrofit be boosted by boiler scrappage?
Article date : 05/02/2010
Central heating systems can be made more energy efficient through the addition of a
condensing boiler, which may mean taking part in the government's
boiler scrappage scheme is a priority for households looking to retrofit their homes.
A spokesperson for the Communities and Local Government said ministers "strongly" support any measures which can reduce carbon emissions and have already taken steps to see the UK's existing housing stock made greener.
Indeed, new properties today are more than 40 per cent more energy efficient than they were in 2002, he added, although more could still be done.
"The government is already taking action in terms of retrofitting existing buildings, improving future design standards and cutting red tape in the planning system for the installation of green energy solutions," the spokesperson concluded.
In January, the government unveiled its
new boiler scrappage scheme, which means any household currently using a G-rated
boiler as part of their
central heating systems can apply to the Energy Saving Trust for a voucher worth £400 towards the cost of a
condensing boiler.
