Condensing boilers 'could make greener homes'
Article date : 12/08/2010

People hoping to make their homes more energy efficient could benefit from purchasing a new
condensing boiler.
Writing for the Guardian, Mark King claimed this type of heating system could drastically reduce the amount of money people pay for their power bills.
He noted that
condensing boilers can convert up to 86 per cent of fuel into heat, while older G-rated models may only reach 65 per cent.
According to Mr King, while the initial outlay for this kind of
boiler is around £2,500, the annual savings equal approximately £235 every year.
He also advised plugging windy gaps on windows and doors with draught strips and excluders.
Homeowners were told this could help to save around £25 a year in energy costs.
The Energy Saving Trust states around 60 per cent of a residence's carbon dioxide emissions are due to
boilers, but advocated the installation of condensing models in order to lower this.
