Basildon council 'concerned about boiler service'
Article date : 09/08/2010

Basildon Council has voiced its doubts over the repair and maintenance being offered by a firm responsible for carrying out
boiler services for its housing tenants.
According to local news provider the Recorder, parGAS began a contract with St Georges Community Housing last September, but since then there have been several complaints.
While the firm apologised and came up with an improvement plan, councillors are still concerned about the service being offered.
Frank Tomlin, responsible for the council's housing, said: "
Boilers are not new technology or rocket science and haven't changed much over the years."
His comments come after parGAS and St Georges Community Housing claimed that the extreme weather seen over the winter and poor communication had left them unprepared to deal with a surge in demand.
Britons are advised to have at least one
boiler service every year, which should be carried out by a qualified member of the Gas Safe Register.
It is advised that such work is conducted during the summer, in order to ensure that people are not left without heating once the temperature falls.
