To help guide customers through the Government’s boiler scrappage scheme Northern Gas Heating have put together the following quick guide.
As you are probably aware, the Government is offering homeowners in England £400 towards the cost of replacing an old 'Band G' rated boiler with a new efficient 'A' reated one.
The Energy Saving Trust is managing grants which will be issued as a voucher to qualifying households from 18th January onwards. The offer is limited to 125,000 homeowners and will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. The Energy Saving Trust website offers customers a useful source of up to date information about the scheme. You can call the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012. The Government has also produced an online eligibility check which allows customers to determine if their boiler qualifies for the grant. Additionally there is also the SEDBUK website where customers can check their boiler rating.
Customers that have concluded that their boiler fits within the grant scheme can apply online, again through the Energy Saving Trust website. Once you have your voucher it must be redeemed within 12 weeks of the issue date. Beyond this period it will be cancelled and reallocated.

As part of the UK’s effort to cut CO2 the installation of an efficient heating system is an excellent method of reducing both household energy bills and CO2 emissions. It is thought that domestic heating accounts for 14 per cent of the UK's CO2 emissions.
By offering up to 125,000 households in England an incentive to upgrade their boiler to a high efficiency A-rated model, the Government aim to save in around 140,000t CO2 per year – similar to taking 45,000 cars off the road.
