How to Save Money on Gas Bills

In recent years people have become fed up at the ever increasing energy bills so it is no surprise that more and more people are looking at either switching supplier or looking at how else they can lower their bills. So here are some tips on how to save money with a new boiler and the effect it can have on the bills that you get through your door.

The first thing that you really should be looking at is just how efficient your current heating system is and if it is below ninety percent then it is time to change. This is because the older versions may get up to seventy percent efficiency on a good day whereas the newer type of boilers tend to operate between ninety and ninety five percent and this does make a difference to your bills.

New boilers are more efficient because they reuse energy that would have normally been lost on the older versions. Combination boiler systems do not require a tank for holding water. They only heat the amount of water that is required and then capturing and reusing the steam that is generated. This means you get the same amount of hot water in less time and it will cost you a lot less in the process.

The cost of having a new system installed need not cost the earth. With the recent success of the governments boiler scrappage scheme some companies like us here at Northern Gas offer the same discounts and we even offer finance for those looking to spread the cost.

Home Insulation

Home insulation is what is needed to keep the heat in your home. Loft insulation could save you more than a £150 a year on your gas bills and having cavity wall insulation will save you another £100 or more a year. Have a look at your loft installation, if it is only two inches thick, it is only about 20% of the recommended thickness. The recommended thickness from the Energy Savings Trust is 10 inches or 250mm. Also having thick curtains and carpets can help keep the heat in, which again leads to lower gas bills.

There are other ways to save money on gas bills which are some small lifestyle changes. Simple things you do around your home will save you money and also you will be doing your bit for the environment. Using energy saving light bulbs is a bright idea! And making sure you turn of lights when you leave a room is another. Turning of appliances at the mains like televisions and games consoles will also be beneficial.
