Boiler Scrappage Scheme
The UK Boiler scrappage scheme was launched In January 2010. Its aim was to help up to 125,00 homes install newer fuel-efficient heating systems. Those that applied and qualified got a voucher for £400 off the price of a modern A rated boiler or a renewable heating system (such as a biomass boiler or a heat pump). The scheme was part of the government’s plans to raise awareness of energy efficiency and also help the heating industry in general.
The scheme was very successful and all vouchers allocated were used up in the first couple of months. Because heating industry benefited many of the top boiler installation companies like Northern Gas can still offer the same discount. By having a modern new boiler installed, households can save between £200 to £235 a year on fuel bills which. With the current discounts still available and news that energy prices are set to raise again later this year, now has never been a better time to get a new boiler installed. The current lifespan of a boiler is about 12 years. So if your boiler isn’t A rated you will be paying more for you bills than someone with an A efficiency rated boiler.
There are still grants available to those who wish to improve the energy efficiency of their home. The Government and local authorities and even energy suppliers provide grants to help you implement energy saving measures in your home. Warm Front Grants
The warm front scheme helps those in need with loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, heating systems and draught proofing. Warm front grants are available to homeowners and those renting who are struggling to afford the costs of replaying their old heating system. To qualify for a grant you must be 60 or over, have a disability, have long-term ill health issues or have a child under 16 years old and be in receipt of certain benefits.
