In the last 10 years combi boilers have started to emerge as the number one boiler system in the UK, attributed with over 50% of all new boiler installations. It seems people in the UK have finally caught on to their benefits. Initially they were more popular in the US.
In recent years energy prices have been rising year on year and many people have looked at ways of saving energy. Many people have decided to update their boiler for a new combi boiler due to its advancement in efficiency, energy cost savings and the ever growing need for more storage space. With combi boilers you are effectively having hot water on tap. There is no need to store cylinders or water like traditional system boilers, so the costs for running these boilers are lower. A small cupboard in the kitchen will be large enough to hold the boiler. Combi boilers don’t need an extra pump to increase water pressure as they work perfectly well with the normal pressure you get from your ordinary household tap.
This all sounds great but what are the cons? Combi boilers are great for a small family home or homes with just one bathroom. If you have more than one bathroom say with two showers, only one shower could be used at a time.
Here at Northern Gas off of our Halstead, Potterton and Worcester combi boilers are high-efficiency condensing boilers. This means they re-use heat that would normally be rejected into the atmosphere from the flue of standard efficiency (non-condensing) boilers. Replacing an old non-condensing boiler with a new high-efficiency condensing boiler can save you money on heating bills and reduce your CO2 emissions quite significantly.
